The Project
The State of Affairs
DELAY
It is not for nothing that Alexander was called the Great, Ivan the Terrible and our Project the Impossible. Bringing back Instant Film and saving analog Instant Photography from extinction is not a breeze - it is rather like constantly scraping past an adventurous abyss and breaking down barriers.
The latter has currently to be done at our factory in Enschede, where an unexpected surprise of impossibility within production occured on the weekend of February 6th. This undesireable fact is now forcing us to reschedule our timetable - the NYC press event on 22nd February has to be postponed. The Project leader's Florian Kaps and André Bosman give themselves one more month to cope with the Impossible. On
March 22nd 2010
they will disclose whether or not their Impossible Project will be possible.
Stay tuned.
Back to the Future
The Impossible Project will present the status of its work on 22nd of February 2010 in New York - where Edwin Land presented the very first Analog Instant Picture publicly at the Annual Meeting of the Optical Society of America 63 years and 1 day ago, on 21st of February 1947. On this date he changed the world of Photography by announcing one of the most outstanding and successful photographic inventions in human history.
Stay tuned to this website to learn all the details soon.

The team of The Impossible Project wishes everyone Merry Christmas & we are all very much looking forward to enjoy 2010 together with you:
It will be an exciting year that will go down in history as the year that our beloved Instant Film was saved from extinction and that analog Instant Photography got revived.
Cheers everyone!

1 Impossible Year
On October 28th The Impossible Project celebrated its 1st Birthday. To mark the occasion the team at the factory proudly restarted one of the majestic machines, feeding them with a tasty selection of vintage and re-developed components. And for the first time since a long time fresh filmpacks were sliding out of the giant machine again.
Even if this was not yet the new Impossible instant film, it still was a major step towards the production start of the new film that will happen on these very machines - which do obviously work like a clockwork.
The Impossible Project inspires Polaroid to re-launch Instant Cameras
We are pleased to herewith announce a history making cooperation between Polaroid and The Impossible Project:
As we have created quite some buzz about Analog Instant Photography over the past 12 months, the Polaroid licensee - The Summit Global Group - now can't resist any longer and announced at a press conference on October 13th in Hongkong that they will re-launch some of the most famous Polaroid Instant Cameras.
Therefore they are commissioning The Impossible Project to develop and produce a limited edition of Polaroid branded Instant Films in the middle of 2010.
The Impossible Project is proud and excited that its ambitions and all the relentless work that has already been invested are now becoming the foundation for Polaroid's comeback as a producer of Instant Cameras.
Large-scale production and worldwide sale of The Impossible Project's new integral film materials under its own brand will already start in the beginning of 2010 - with a brand new and astonishing black and white Instant Film and the first colour films to follow in the course of the year.
Polaroid Exhibition at Atlas Gallery, London
The expiration date of the last batch of manufactured Polaroid film - the 9th October 2009 - marks the opening of the Polaroid Exhibition at Atlas Gallery in London.
But this is not the end - Instant Photography's future looks bright: if all goes well, production and worldwide sale of new integral film materials by The Impossible Project will start in the beginning of 2010.

General News
Due to your incredible support regarding the 5th of our 7 big challenges (the latex timing layer), the team could produce the very first complete and stable instant picture a few weeks ago - a round of applause everybody!!
That is to say that development is making really good progress at the moment, we're ahead of the original production timeline and have not found any unsolvable roadblocks ahead.
For you this means - wear our beautiful Impossible T-Shirts, enjoy your summer and never stop keeping your fingers crossed, so that we can soon announce The Impossible Project to be a possible one.
Polaroid is transforming itself from an analog Instant Film Production Company to a global Consumer Electronics and Digital Imaging company.
Production of analog Instant Film stopped in June 2008, closing the factories in Mexico (Instant Packfilm production) and the Netherlands (Instant Integral production).
Impossible b.v. has been founded with the concrete aim to re-invent and re-start production of analog INTEGRAL FILM for vintage Polaroid cameras.
Therefore Impossible b.v. has acquired the complete film production equipment in Enschede (NL) from Polaroid, has signed a 10-year lease agreement on the factory building; and has engaged the most experienced team of Integral Film experts worldwide.
The Impossible mission is NOT to re-build Polaroid Integral film but (with the help of strategic partners) to develop a new product with new characteristics, consisting of new optimised components, produced with a streamlined modern setup. An innovative and fresh analog material, sold under a new brand name that perfectly will match the global re-positioning of Integral Films.
150.000 SQ. FT
Ranging from simple screwdrivers via special spare parts up to 10 giant Integral Film assembly machines, all machinery and tools needed to develop and produce up to 100 million new Integral Instant films per year are present in Building North. Impossible b.v. has purchased the complete production setup in working order (which produced film up to the middle of the year) from Polaroid. All machines are still fully connected and operational. The original total costs of this unique and highly specialized setup today is approx. 100 million EUR.
